課程概述 |
This is an introductory course on Chinese-English translation practice. We'll focus mainly on translating Chinese texts into English (C-E) and on non-literary texts (e.g., news, scientific communication, technology and business). |
課程目標 |
The objective is simple: Given a source text, we need to produce a translation that:
(1) is semantically equivalent to the source text;
(2) is idiomatic (absence of "translationese" or other unnatural constructions);
(3) conforms to the conventions of the target language (e.g., terminology); and
(4) is grammatically impeccable. |
課程要求 |
1. Attendance is required. If you miss three classes (or six class periods) with no justifications, you'll automatically receive a failing grade.
2. Be punctual. Walking into a classroom where a lively discussion is already in session is disruptive and doesn't look good on you.
3. Submit your assignments on time. For each (calendar) day an assignment is submitted late, 15% of the assignment's full credit will be deducted from its final grade.
4. Participation is an integral part of this course, so be prepared before you step into the classroom! |
